Fall Favorites

December 6, 2014

It’s the middle of Fall and there are two jackets I’ve been wearing consistently on a day-to-day basis. Because it isn’t cold enough here to have to sport something heavy, such as an Arc’Teryx Alpha, I have the option to wear a variety of jackets without sacrificing style. At just over $100, Obey and Zara make well known jackets that are hard to beat in both the looks and quality department.

Obey “Rapture” jacket: This jacket was first released in Fall 2009, and it became an instant classic. What made it popular was the built-in attached sweater underneath the outer layer, giving it a layered look. The Rapture jacket is credited with starting the layered trend that so many other brands rushed to copy, and still copy to this day. While layering is nothing new to people on the East Coast or up North, this jacket popularized the trend in places like California and Texas. It’s rare for a style to stick around so long, but for this classic there’s no surprise because it’s an effortless look that goes well with daily clothing.

The Rapture is made of synthetic material, rather than real leather, which allows Obey to keep reasonable pricing. Pair it with a dark watch, such as the one pictured (Fossil), and your favorite handgun. The jacket will keep you warm and your gun concealed.

Zara Hooded Jacket: This Spanish company exploded in the US recently due to their European inspired designs and I’ll definitely admit that I’m a fan. Some of their clothing I wouldn’t be caught dead in but they always seem to have a few gems such as this red jacket. The fit on it is excellent (Zara clothing runs small) and it keeps me plenty warm during cool nights. The jacket isn’t as heavy as The Rapture so if you live in a colder climate you’ll want to wear a longsleeve underneath.

Zara produces arguably the best product for the price, and this jacket is no exception, but I can’t say that they make a better product than Obey. This jacket goes well with neutrals and graphic t-shirts for a rock n’ roll look. Keep in mind when wearing a flashy piece like this you don’t want to get too chaotic with patterns or clashing colors. Keep the rest of the wardrobe simple and sleek. Pairs well with slim fit jeans and sneakers.
